Removing glued carpeting
can be a real challenge. However, the FEIN Multimaster makes this task considerably easier. Here you will find detailed instructions on how to remove glued carpeting efficiently and cleanly.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Preparation:
- Empty the room completely to be able to work unhindered.
- Wear protective gloves, goggles and, if necessary, a dust mask to protect yourself from dust, porous adhesive or floor covering residue, and dirt.
- Make sure the room is well ventilated if possible.
2. Prepare the tool:
- Use the FEIN multi-purpose blade (63903251210) and the fixed FEIN scraper (63903234210) with your FEIN Multimaster. Both are specially designed for cutting carpeting and removing adhesive residue, respectively.
- Attach the selected attachment to the Multimaster.
3. Cut and remove the carpet:
- If present, please loosen and remove the skirting board, and if necessary, screws/tacks from the skirting board in advance.
- Start at one corner of the room and check the fixing of the floor covering.
- Cut the fitted carpet into handy narrow strips using the multi-purpose blade by pushing the blade under the carpet and cutting carefully. If necessary, lift a piece of fitted carpet with a needle awl or screwdriver.
- Pull the cut strips off slowly and evenly. If some sections are difficult to remove, use the spatula attachment to help.
4. Remove adhesive residue:
- Switch to the scraper attachment to remove the adhesive residue from the floor. Hold the tool at a flat angle and gently scrape the adhesive forward, applying light pressure.
- For stubborn adhesive residues, it can be helpful to heat the adhesive with a hot air gun before scraping it off with the scraper attachment. If necessary, you can also use the FEIN carbide rasp (63731006210).
5. Follow-up:
- Thoroughly vacuum the room to remove all dust and dirt particles.
- Check the subfloor for damage and repair it if necessary before laying new flooring.
